Commonwealth Gives Back 2025

35 New Electric Buses Charged up for Lawrence Students
There was lots of excitement at yesterday’s ribbon cutting ceremony for the new fleet of electric vehicles (25 school buses and 10 minibuses) that are serving Lawrence Public Schools this year, including from the people who would know best – drivers! Superintendent Carrero thanked them for the work they do every day, and bus driver Santiago Moya shared his experience so far, emphasizing that the benefits of a cleaner, quieter ride will be felt by both students and our neighborhoods. Thank you to the many partners who have made it possible, including the City of Lawrence, NRT Bus, EV infrastructure provider Zenobé, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center (MassCEC) and MassDEP.

Celebrating Hispanic Heritage at Oliver Elementary 2025
Families at the Oliver Elementary School had lots of fun learning about famous Latinos, dancing and enjoying great food at the first Hispanic Heritage event in their new building.

Sun Academy Girls Basketball Clinic a Success
Thank you to the WNBA Connecticut Sun Academy, Everyone's a Player and all the sponsors from bringing a free basketball clinic to LHS on Women's Equality Day. LPS Middle and High School girls enjoyed the workshops and basketball clinics offered.

Back to School Drive 2025
Thank you to all the partners and volunteers who helped make the Pedro Martinez Foundation's Back-to-School Drive for LPS families a big hit this weekend!
Free backpacks, school supplies, food and more were shared with students and families through support from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine, Franklin, Benchmark Strategies, and Gordon Food Services.

Leahy Students Speak at Ribbon Cutting 2025
Leahy Middle School eighth graders Jeremiah Ortiz and Ashley Batista Tejada were among the many people excited to participate in the ribbon cutting of the new Leahy school building on Monday, August 18.
“This building is more than just a school,” they shared in their speech. “It’s a symbol of hope and pride for our community. It shows that the students of Lawrence matter — that we are seen, valued, and supported.”
