Lawrence Public Schools 2025 Staff Opening Day Event
The multi-talented students of Lawrence inspired teachers and staff during the Opening Day event for all District Staff. Performances by the Summer Music Group and highlights from the upcoming musical The Lion King were greeted with standing ovations. Lawrence Public Schools is ready for the new school year.

Leahy Students Speak at Ribbon Cutting 2025
Leahy Middle School eighth graders Jeremiah Ortiz and Ashley Batista Tejada were among the many people excited to participate in the ribbon cutting of the new Leahy school building on Monday, August 18.
“This building is more than just a school,” they shared in their speech. “It’s a symbol of hope and pride for our community. It shows that the students of Lawrence matter — that we are seen, valued, and supported.”

Ribbon Cutting at New Oliver School
The City of Lawrence and Lawrence Public Schools were proud to host so many partners, supporters and community members today to celebrate the completion of the new Henry K. Oliver school building's nine-year journey from proposal to reality!
Thanks to the support of the Mayor Brian A. DePeña, Lawrence City Council, our local state delegation, the Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA), the state Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE), and too many more to name, over 1,000 students will be welcomed into Oliver Elementary and Oliver Middle when the school year starts on August 25.

Lawrence High School Summer Graduation 2025
Congratulations to the 83 members of the Lawrence High School Class of 2025 who received their diplomas in a ceremony held on August 7th. That brings the 2025 graduate total well over 900 students, breaking school records again!

Music in the Summer at LPS
These are some of the 40 students learning Music this Summer at LHS. They are in grades 2 - 12 and are singing, playing instruments from guira to guitar and will be ready for the Opening Day ceremony in Lawrence Public Schools.

2025 Junior Police Academy at LHS
Student Cadets are listening attentively to School Resource Officer Carmichael during the Community Policing Night of Junior Police Academy. The program runs for two weeks each Summer at Lawrence High School to teach students about many aspects of policing.

Superintendent Speaks at Dimelo Talks
Superintendent Carrero was proud to be among the participating leaders at the recent Dímelo Talks! event hosted at Northern Essex Community College. Modeled after TED Talks, the Dímelo Talks! series is presented by the statewide Latino advocacy coalition Unidos In Power, and brings together Latino leaders, community members, and allies to discuss the challenges and opportunities for Latino advancement throughout the state of Massachusetts.

The 2025 Lawrence Public Schools Summer Reading List is Here!
We are excited to announce that the 2025 LPS Summer Reading List is now ready for distribution! This list includes curated, grade-level appropriate book recommendations for students entering Grades 1 through 8:
Grade 1, Grade 2, Grade 3, Grade 4, Grade 5, Grade 6, Grade 7 and Grade 8.
The full reading list will be posted on the LPS website and will also be shared with the Lawrence Public Library. The Lawrence Public Library will have copies of the selected books available for students to borrow. If students do not yet have a library card, please support families by sharing and helping them complete the Library Card Application Form.
