Saludos Lawrence Public Schools community.
Another summer is almost over, and everyone at Lawrence Public Schools is ready and excited to welcome students back to school next week.
School starts for grades 1-12 this Monday, August 24! The first day for preK and kindergarten is Tuesday, September 8, following the four-day Labor Day weekend. As a reminder, the full 2026-27 calendar can always be found on the calendars page of the LPS website.
I want to once again start the year emphasizing that nothing has a greater impact on student success than being in school! Attendance matters for every student in every grade every day, and a great school year starts with being present and ready to learn on day one. So thank you for supporting your student’s attendance beginning this Monday, and throughout 2026-27.
Attendance is also one of many areas you can always receive support with from the LPS Family Resource Center, and remember that this year it has a new home at the Lawlor School building (41 Lexington St.). The FRC team is ready to help with enrollment, access to community resources for students and adults, ways to be involved in your child’s school and education, and much more. Don’t hesitate to visit or contact them any time throughout the year.
Finally, the beginning of the year is a great time to make sure you are following LPS social media accounts. You can find lots of videos and photos (download for free on Flickr!) and stay up-to-date on important events, announcements and engagement opportunities like my virtual Coffee Hours, Parent University and the LPS Tu Voz Council.
Thank you all again for helping us start things off right in 2026-27, and see everyone Monday!
Respectfully,
Ralph Carrero
Superintendent
Lawrence Public Schools
