Saludos Lawrence Public Schools community.

This is our last school break, and then as we know it becomes an extremely busy time for schools and families. That means lots of updates and reminders to share…

  • April vacation starts today, and we return to school on Monday, April 27. Please note district offices will also be closed this Monday, April 20 in recognition of Patriots’ Day.
  • The 2026-27 Student and Family Calendar has been finalized and is available on the LPS website. The first day of next school year is August 24, and will be here before you know it!
  • Spring always brings some fantastic arts opportunities in LPS:
    • You have two more chances to see Lawrence High School Theater’s incredible performance of the musical Evita, tonight and tomorrow at the LHS PAC at 6pm. Tickets are just $6 and can be bought at the door or online at https://gofan.co/event/6222002.
    • The annual K-12 District Art Show and Self-Portrait Exhibition will open Wednesday, April 29, from 4-5:30pm at Lawrence Heritage State Park (1 Jackson St.). Incredible student creations will be on display from wall to wall and floor to ceiling with free admission, so join us!
  • We are entering promotion and graduation season, and those exciting events should all now be scheduled so be on the lookout for details from your child’s school. LPS high school commencement will take place on Friday, June 5 (in Veterans Stadium if we have good weather, and in the LHS Field House if we’re not so lucky).
  • On the subject of graduation, I want to take this opportunity to highlight last month’s release of our 2025 graduation rates. The LPS graduation rate matched our highest in 20 years, and has now increased 30 points since 2012. Please join me in recognizing the commitment of all the students, staff and families who continue to make this success possible.
  • Pre-kindergarten and kindergarten registration for the 2026-27 school year opens May 1. You can find all the details and links on the LPS website here.

Please continue to follow the LPS website and social media accounts for ongoing coverage of these and many more events and activities throughout the spring. Thank you all for your support as we look to have a strong finish to the school year, and have a wonderful April vacation.

Respectfully,
Ralph Carrero
Superintendent
